LSP seeks cacellation of web counselling for EAMCET
HYDERABAD: Alleging that the web-based counselling for admission into various engineering courses through Eamcet is causing inconvenience and trouble to both parents and students, the Lok Satta Party today demanded immediate cancellation of the same.
Party spokesmen Katari Srinivsa Rao and V Laxman Balaji, in a statement, said that under web-counselling students were thrown into confusion, as they have to choose from 3000 options in 577 engineering colleges.
Assistant professor in an engineering college, Srinivasa Rao, and engineer Laxman Balaji pointed out that for want of Internet facility, rural students were forced to come to urban areas and stay there for days together to take part in the webcounselling, which could be avoided in the earlier form of counselling.
``Many rural students were finding it difficult to take part in the counselling process, as they are not computer literate,’’ they said.
“If there is disruption in power supply during registration, the students have to repeat the process right from the beginning. If the candidate commits a mistake in the process, his or her future would be at stake,’’ said a concerned parent.
Criticising that there were a number of engineering colleges without basic infrastructure and teaching faculty, the Lok Satta leaders alleged that some college managements were openly selling seats for about Rs.10 lakh each. The Government should ensure that the seats under the NRI and management quotas were filled as per strict and transparent norms.
The spokesmen said the AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education), which encouraged proliferation of engineering colleges even without basic amenities, did not bother about maintenance of standards in them.
