HYDERABAD: Overwhelmed by the sheer volume of traffic, the AP State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE ) has revised the schedule of the Eamcet web-based counselling here today.


With thousands of candidates simultaneously hitting the sites to exercise their options, servers collapsed under the load, throwing in confusion the process which began on Friday.

Addressing a battery of newspersons after an emergency meeting held with experts from the National Informatics Centre here today, APSCHE Chairman KC Reddy said that under the revised schedule, students may make their choices between August 3 and 25.

“In order to control the traffic, we have come up with a telescopic schedule in which candidates would be given access to counselling in a gradual manner, based on their ranks,’’ he said. Another ten servers had been deployed, with each server capable of handling 1,500 options at any point of time, he added.

Reddy also said that even after August 25, candidates wishing to make changes in their options could do the same on August 26 and 27. The choices would be frozen on August 30.

“Final allotment would be made on August 31 and classes would commence on September 1,’’ he said. To such candidates as had already declared their options, the APSCHE officials have assured that those preferences had been recorded. They may, however, participate in the new schedule too.

In another major development, KC Reddy told reporters that the seat matrix had changed.

“Many established colleges have got permission for additional branches and intake. So students who have already stated their options can have a look at the latest list of colleges and courses and revise their preferences if they so wish,’’ he pointed out.

Meanwhile, out of the 50,000 students who have had their certificates verified, around 39,000 had given a total of 8.45 lakh preferences. Camp officer Raghunath has said that though the counselling procedure began with hiccups, there were no problems on Day Two.
